Gibson City Ill is a city in Ford County, in the Champaign-Urbana metro area. Gibson City is located in East Central Illinois and lies 15 miles north of Mahomet on Route 47.
Gibson City Il was purchased by Jonathan B. Lott in 1869. Lott began to build the city by building various shops and a post office. In 1874, a railroad was built through Gibson City.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,373 people, 1,469 households, and 928 families residing in the city.
